Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris born October 20 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is the 49th and current vice president of the United States. She is the first woman to hold the vice-president and the highest-ranking female politician in U.S history. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously served as the attorney general for California from 2011 to 2017 and also as a United States senator representing California from 2017 until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. She began her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then to the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and then she was re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 until 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship of undocumented immigrants, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her most well-known accomplishments are her pointed questions of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
